MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP
Each child will participate in a 3 hour and 15 minute musical theater workshop that includes Drama, Dance, Voice and Prep. The Musical Theater Workshop culminates in a full production using Broadway material at the end of the semester.
Students learn theater concepts and terminology through the use of theater games and improvs in a nurturing learning environment. Every student will receive a role in the “Stage Right Production” at the end of the semester. Students will prepare for their role(s) as they work on characterization, acting techniques, blocking, cues, etc.
Students will be introduced to basic dance steps and terminology in a fun and upbeat dance and musical theater movement class. They will incorporate the steps learned into choreography especially designed for the “Stage Right Production.” The choreography will feature a variety of dance styles depending on the show choice for the semester. Styles may include jazz, modern, ballet, hip-hop, tap, etc.
All students will learn breathing and warm-up exercises, proper voice technique, while rehearsing Broadway material for the end of semester production. Students will have the opprotunity to sing as a full ensemble, as well as learning to have confidence in their own individual voice.
This is Stage Right’s ‘behind the scenes’ class where students study and learn more about the production they’re working on character development, while also reviewing skills such as: identifying cue lines, designing costumes , working with personal props, highlighting lines, etc.
